Cupping Therapy

Cupping Therapy is a clinically supported manual technique designed to reduce pain, improve mobility, and promote recovery through gentle negative pressure applied to the skin and underlying tissues. This controlled suction lifts soft tissue, enhances local circulation, and stimulates the body’s natural healing response.

Evidence supports the effectiveness of cupping in addressing muscle tightness, myofascial restrictions, delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS), and localized inflammation. By improving blood flow and lymphatic drainage, cupping helps accelerate recovery, decrease tension, and enhance tissue oxygenation.

At Physical Therapy and Wellness by Design (PTWD), cupping is incorporated into a personalized, evidence-based plan of care, and all modalities are applied as and when clinically appropriate and needed. Cupping may be performed statically (held in place) or dynamically (moved gently across the skin) to improve flexibility, reduce stiffness, and support functional recovery — based on the patient’s presentation and the physical therapist’s clinical judgment.

Treatment plans are tailored to each individual, ensuring that every technique used is purposeful and aligned with the patient’s unique goals, symptoms, and phase of recovery — helping each person restore, recover, and rebuild through one-on-one, high-quality care.
